Don’t Flush These Items!

Don’t Flush These Items!

How to Keep Your Toilet Happy and Healthy

When it comes to your toilet, there are a few dos and don’ts. For instance, you should keep the lid shut if you have a dog or cat that likes to drink out of the bowl. Additionally, there are certain items — such as cotton swabs — that you should never flush down your commode.

If you’re looking to prevent a plumbing disaster from happening in your home, and keep your toilet clog-free, here are some items you should never flush down your toilet at all costs.

Things to Never Flush Down a Toilet

Cotton Products

One of the worst things that any homeowner could flush down their toilet are cotton products. Whether they’re cotton swabs or cotton balls, these items can cause a significant clog in a toilet bowl. If you must dispose of any cotton-based product, toss them out into a nearby garbage can instead.

Paper Towels

Just because they’re made out of paper, it doesn’t mean that they can break down when flushed down a toilet. Paper towels are very dense and absorbent — and the minute they come in contact with H2O, they won’t break down. Like any cotton-based products that you’d like to dispose of, consider tossing paper towels out in a garbage can, too.

“Flushable” Wipes

Contrary to popular belief, these wipes do not live up to their name — in fact, “flushable” wipes do not break down when flushed in your commode; they sit there and create a pretty severe blockage in the trap. At all costs, do not toss them into your toilet — consider a trash receptacle instead.
