Heat Pump Installation & Repair
Expert Virginia Beach Heating & Cooling Technicians
Heat pumps are a safe and economical way to control the temperature in your home. Consisting of two units—one indoor unit and one outdoor—heat pumps are an alternative to traditional heating and cooling methods, like a gas or electric furnace. These systems warm your home through the transfer of heat from the air, ground, or water, instead of through the burning of fuel, wood, gas, or oil. The outdoor unit absorbs heat and distributes it through the indoor unit and into your Virginia Beach home.
What Are the Benefits of Heat Pumps?
Year-Round Versatility
The same heat pump can be used for both heating and cooling. When in heating mode, the heat pump pulls warm air from outside the home and transfers it to the interior—keeping you and your family warm. In the summer, you can switch the pump into air conditioning mode to cool the inside of the house. The pump reverses its process and extracts heat from inside the home to be released outside. Heat pumps with a programmable thermostat are available to keep your home at a comfortable temperature year-round.
Reduced Risk of Fire Hazards
Unlike a furnace heater or wood-burning stove, a heat pump does not have any hot surfaces that can potentially burn a child or pet by accident. The pump does not use combustion to generate its heat, so there are no open flames. Heat pumps are safe to use overnight or when the home is unattended.
Better Air Quality
Heat pumps do not dry out the air inside your home like a conventional heater, so there is no need for a humidifier. Because no oxygen is needed for combustion, the room will not become stuffy as the heat pump runs, and you can use a heat pump to circulate air in the home without heating or cooling it.
A filter inside the pump removes pollutants from the air before releasing it back into its designated room or area. This makes heat pumps especially beneficial for people who suffer from allergies, asthma, or other respiratory problems.
Improved Energy Efficiency
Heat pumps are three to four times more efficient than oil and gas heaters. Over the course of a year, this can add up to significant savings on your utility bills. Conventional heating systems produce less than one kilowatt of heating for every kilowatt of energy they consume. Modern heat pumps can generate at least three kilowatts of heating power per kilowatt of energy input.
Less Waste Produced
No waste products are created when a heat pump transfers warmth from one location to another. The only energy that is required to operate a heat pump is the electricity needed to power the compressor. The refrigerant used in most of today’s heat pumps has been certified as safe for the ozone layer.
