Do You Still Have an Analog Thermostat?

The time to replace an analog thermostat has come and gone. Replacing your analog with a digital thermostat gives you more precise control over the temperature, which will help you save money.

Another cost-effective feature of a modern thermostat is the ability to set modes for nights, weekends, and even when you leave town. Automatically adjusting the thermostat saves money when you leave the house or don’t need the heat on as high.

However, even the more modern digital thermostats need to be replaced over time. If your thermostat doesn’t stay at the setting that you specified, or if your home doesn’t get as warm as you’ve set it, it may be time to replace your thermostat. Note: Generally, a heater that doesn’t turn on is a sign of problems within the heater itself and not indicative of a thermostat problem.

What Are Common Thermostat Problems?

With many different systems and mechanisms working together at once, it can be difficult for the untrained eye to detect what exactly the problem is. Our Virginia Beach heating and cooling experts can get in there and locate the problem, and from our experience, it’s normally one of three issues.

The most common causes of a thermostat problem are as follows:

  • Dust: Dust can often cause a thermostat to malfunction. Remove the thermostat cover after shutting off electricity to the room, and then look for dust on your unit.
  • Wire corrosion: After removing the housing from your thermostat, you may notice corrosion on the wires that may lead to malfunctions. These often require replacement.
  • No battery charge: Some thermostats require batteries for operation. If your display is no longer working, first check that your batteries are installed correctly and have a charge
