Major kudos to American Mechanical and, most especially Jason G. for solving a long standing and very vexing problem at my home. Six years ago, my husband, who was then dying of cancer, had a full house GENERAC 20 kW generator installed at our home (by a different contractor). It was his hope that this would help me feel safer during power outages in the future. Unfortunately, the generator ended up failing within minutes of a power outage. The problem was chalked up by several companies to the geo-thermal heating and air conditioning unit which was overpowering the generator as it came up. And so it went for the entire six years and many eyes taking a look. When the geo-thermal system was replaced recently, the new one came with a soft start feature to prevent overpowering. This time I called American Mechanical to perform the service on my generator. Jason did the maintenance and ensured me all was in working order. But, when live tested, the generator failed again. Many companies might have given up at this point. Jason instead came to the rescue in a big way! He believed the generator was sound and his work pointed to a problem in the gas line delivery. He was very knowledgeable and did not accept Virginia Natural Gas initial test results to the contrary. He pushed for more testing. He explained to me, in detail, what he though was happening so I could comfortably converse with the VNG technician on site. With urging, VNG ultimately did additional tests and discovered the home service line (off their main line) was for the most part occluded by a stuck cut out “coupon” that should have been removed at the time of the installation years earlier. Apparently, this is a rare problem and the minimal gas getting through the line to my house was just enough for intermittent use of a few gas-powered appliances. Thus, no obvious hiccups that might have revealed the problem sooner. Jason was the guy who made it all come together and now I have a fully tested and functional generator! Had it not been for this young man and his knowledge and skill with generators, his determination to deliver great customer service, this problem may have gone on unsolved forever. I can not express how very grateful I am that Jason was the one assigned to my job. It may seem a bit sentimental, but I like to imagine my late husband also sending his very appreciative “well done”! Thank you Jason G. and American Mechanical. You rock!
